Client Spotlight: David Rochez of FromNewYorkToTexas

I first started working with David at a time when I was trying to expand my business and get into working with bloggers. One day in March 2016 I had a meeting with him at a downtown Houston bar and explained what my goals were as far as what I was trying to do. From that point forward, we worked together for over a year doing everything from shoots, interviews, and community service events. It’s been great to see how his blog has evolved in the past 24 months.

Jerren Willis (JW): Tell me a little more about your blog. How has it evolved over time?

David Rochez (DR): FromNewYorktoTexas is a menswear and lifestyle blog where I educate men and women on style and etiquette. The first phase of the blog was seeing what I wanted to talk about. I first started writing about everything and didn’t like that very much. After a few months, I wanted to talk more about my personal style. After that, I incorporated fashion shows, travel, interviews, restaurants, and events.

JW: How and why did you get into blogging?

DR: Blogging literally fell on my lap. I would always read this blog called the style blog now its called the article of style and I wanted to do what they did and knew I could. So I put the blog together and started blogging about personal style and interviewing dapper guys that I knew

JW: What are the 3 most important factors when it comes to making your blog a success?

DR: Networking, being authentic, and being consistent. Honestly, I haven’t blogged (written content in a while but I’ve been using IG Story a lot).

JW:  Is there anyone you looked for help when starting out and why?

DR: I’m sure I’ve asked people for help. The biggest thing is reading and watching the people I looked up that were blogging or owning their business on another level. I’m not too proud to ask for help; I understand people are busy and sometimes can’t. But that didn’t stop me and won’t.

Community Service Event @ Irvington House – Summer 2016

JW:  Your blog has allowed you to meet and network with some of the top people in men’s lifestyle and fashion. Tell us about your most memorable experiences as a men’s lifestyle and fashion blogger.

DR: Great question, I had some crazy cool moments but the most memorable was when I was in Italy in Florence for a men’s fashion trade show. I got invited to 5 fashion shows and could only make one. I went to the trade show and met this designer who invited me to a party. I arrived at the event and the place was packed it was a store opening for a menswear brand. I walked around looking at the clothing and a few of the Italians noticed me and liked my style. I had on a burgundy sports coat, burgundy turtleneck, burgundy trousers and black Chelsea boots. That day I met Nick Wooster, Frank Gallucci a blogger, and the founder and owner of the clothing brands event I attended. Sidenote: Mr. Porter a menswear online magazine had an event last year in Dallas and Nick Wooster was at the event and I asked him if he remembered me from Italy and he said yes, which was pretty cool.

JW: What advice would you give to new men’s lifestyle bloggers in 140 characters?

DR: I won’t take up 140 characters, but I’d say; men’s fashion is all about personal style. How you incorporate new, old, high and low fashion and make it your own.

David Rochez founder of FromNewYorktoTexas a men’s wear and lifestyle blog. I started FrmNytoTX back in 2014 with inspiration and motivation in telling my story. Blogging literally fell into my lap and changed my life. In the last 4 years of blogging, I had the opportunity to travel to Italy (Milan and Florence), Los Angeles, Miami, and New York. I’ve collaborated with many brands from small to big and have been in a few magazines and newspapers. I say that to say this; once you have a passion to do something positive and you put your all into it and by the grace of God he will open the door for you. I’m still learning about myself, still growing, and have a mission to better myself, my community and legacy.
